I met with my friend Rhiannon the other day for chai tea/hot chocolate at Marmadukes café in Sheffield centre. She was wearing a light plaid top with a white t-shirt, blue jeans & black low tops. It was freezing cold that day so she also had an orange rain mac – the curse of British weath

We spoke first of all about how she felt about the pressure that is on young girls to dress well/wear make-up.
It’s there and I know it’s bad, but it’s just the way things are and as a ‘normal’ person I can’t do much to change that. It’s nice to look nice but then sometimes it gets too much. I wear make up for myself, but I get uncomfortable wearing it. I don’t want it to be bad because I’m not that good at it (I disagree, but what do I know?) but I don’t want to try too much.
This conversation was actually quite refreshing, because I see & speak to so many girls that worry so much about how they dress that it affects them 24/7. It was so lovely to talk to someone who just wears what they like and doesn’t worry too much about how others see her.

One thing I always notice about her is the badges. Her rucksack/shirts always have at least one badge on. She had some extra ones that day because we weren’t at school, my personal favourite was her brexshit yellow badge. I had to ask her what this obsession was about. Why she loved badges so much?
I want more badges because they’re little pieces of individuality that you can stick on something. If I could make a personality I’d make it with badges, take lots of different pieces and put them all together and put it somewhere and that would be you. I would need a million different badges to do that, but that’s what I’d do.
This answer really interested me, because I’ve never really been big on badges. I have a couple on my Levi denim jacket but apart from that I don’t have many. This made me want to go out and buy as many badges as I could possibly fit onto my jackets. I realised just what a good badge can do to a jacket.

With all the photos I took and all the interesting conversations we had I enjoyed the most wonderful day, and I can’t wait to create more posts like this.

Stay stylish,
Ash Jayy.
